Michael Phelps didn’t need any words to say something to Chad le Clos after winning the 200-meter butterfly Tuesday night at the 2016 Olympics. A simple finger wag did the trick.
Phelps was looking for redemption after he shockingly lost in his signature event le Clos at the 2012 Olympics in London, and that’s exactly what he got in Brazil. Phelps took home the 20th gold medal of his career with a swim of 1:53.36, which was just enough to beat out silver medalist Masato Sakai of Japan. Hungary’s Tamas Kenderesi took home the bronze, which meant le Clos didn’t even medal.
There was plenty of intrigue surrounding this event, especially after Phelps broke the Internet with his reaction to the South African’s pre-swim antics Monday night.
