The New England Patriots rule the AFC East.
The dominating Patriots have made the lives of the Buffalo Bills, the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets miserable year after year as they continue to own the division. The Dolphins and Bills have made steps in the right direction toward “league-wide respectability,” former New England linebacker Matt Chatham notes in his latest post for Football by Football, but they simply can’t pass the consistently good Patriots.
“You try to build your team and just focus on you, but that persistent, blinding light emanating from Foxboro never stops,” Chatham writes. “The Patriots are the NFL’s version of Seinfeld’s Kenny Rogers Roasters sign, burning an eternal hole in the brains of the Jets, Dolphins, and Bills.”
Chatham, who also spent time on the other side of things as a Jet, added that no matter how many roster moves are made and how much optimism there is heading into the season, the other teams in the division continually fail to catch Bill Belichick and Co.
“The offseason for AFC foes of the Patriots is always full of hope, purposeful roster building, and scheming to one day pass New England. But somehow it never happens.”
