NBA Free Agency Rumors: Mavericks To Offer Hassan Whiteside Max Contract

Hassan Whiteside probably isn’t a max-contract player, but with the NBA salary cap rising and most teams having lots of space to spend, someone will give it to the Miami Heat center.

One of those teams likely will be the Dallas Mavericks.

“Absolutely, no questions asked,” ESPN’s Tim MacMahon said Tuesday on “The Ethan Skolnick Show” when asked if the Mavs will offer Whiteside a max deal. “The financial negotiations with the Mavericks will take all of two seconds. One second max for the max.”

The Mavericks have been stuck in a semi-contender status for a while. They have lost in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs in each of the last three seasons and four of the last five seasons.

Whiteside would add much-needed rim protection and rebounding to a Dallas frontcourt that probably won’t but could lose Dirk Nowitzki. And, of course, we know Mavs owner Mark Cuban is ultra competitive and won’t shy from spending money to help his team win.
