Brian Campbell arguably is the best defenseman as the NHL beginsĀ free agency begins Friday at noon ET.
He’s 37 years old, but the former Stanley Cup champion still is a top-four defenseman capable of logging 20-plus minutes per game.
The best fit for him is the Chicago Blackhawks, with whom he played for from 2008-09 through 2011-12 and won a championship in 2010. It sounds like there could be a reunion in the works.
FOX Sports Midwest’s Andy Strickland provided an update Thursday on Campbell’s situation, and it was far from surprising.
Sounds like former #panther Dman Brian Campbell is headed back to #Blackhawks on a short (likely 1 yr) deal #NHL

The Blackhawks need a top-four defenseman. They haven’t yet found a suitable replacement for Johnny Oduya and Brent Seabrook no longer plays at an elite level.
Campbell would be an excellent addition on a short-term contract. He tallied 31 points (six goals, 25 assists) for the Panthers last seasonĀ and hasn’t missed a regular-season game since the 2010-11 campaign.
