The addition of Alex Bregman raised the Red Sox’s ceiling, and it also added another veteran leader to the clubhouse.

Rob Refsnyder was one of the players who filled that role for Boston. The 33-year-old was a key contributor for the Red Sox since his arrival in 2022 and his big-league experience helped benefit a younger roster.

One of Refsnyder’s key qualities to Alex Cora’s lineup is his proficiency against left-handed pitching. NESN’s Tom Caron noted that Bregman’s numbers took a slight dip against southpaws and asked Refsnyder if he had any advice for the marquee signing.

“Not really if I’m gonna be honest,” Refsnyder jokingly told Caron. “We have had some conversations. I was there for his debut; I remember being in Houston for that debut. I remember the crowd going crazy when his name got announced. He’s such an amazing ball player and just being around him a week or so, it’s been exciting just to see his process, just how he talks about the information that we’re giving. He’s talked to pitchers about their pitch shapes and everything like that. Just seeing him come into our clubhouse, it seems like he’s fit in really, really well. He’s just so smart and works extremely hard. He’s also in the 30s, too, I think, so it’s nice to have another guy in the 30s. …”

The 33-year-old continued to compliment Bregman and admitted that since he’s not an everyday player, he wanted to do whatever it took to help his teammates as much as possible.
