Brad Marchand headlines the Bruins’ list of impending free agents, but the captain hardly is Boston’s only impactful player scheduled to hit the open market.
So too is Trent Frederic, who’s playing in the final season of the two-year extension he signed with the B’s in early August 2023. The 2016 first-round pick isn’t having the greatest campaign by his standards, but his impressive blend of skill and physicality could make him a very sought-after player this summer.
However, much like Marchand, Frederic hopes to continue calling TD Garden home.
“That’s been my goal. I really like playing here. I like the guys. I like all the staff,” Frederic told reporters Monday, per Boston.com. “I’m obviously aware of the situation, being a UFA, not having a deal. I’m not oblivious to that. I don’t think like that. I’m not going to. If something happens, I’ll react off that.”
There’s certainly a chance Frederic will stay with the Bruins, but the 27-year-old probably will have the opportunity to at least see what’s out there this offseason. Boston general manager Don Sweeney on Sunday acknowledged it’s “unlikely” the franchise extends any other impending free agent besides Marchand before the end of the season.

But as Frederic noted, he currently isn’t focused on his contract status. The seventh-year pro and his B’s teammates are trying to close out their regular season strong with hopes of securing a Stanley Cup playoff spot.
