Despite a season-high 16 shots in a single period for the Boston Bruins, the New York Islanders struck first after taking an interference penalty against Johnny Beecher. As the Bruins’ power play expired, Jean-Gabriel Pageau picked up a rebound and created a 2-on-1 as Romanov exited the box, taking the lead in the first.
The Islanders scored again in the second period, when Kyle Palmieri shot one in on a Brock Nelson rebound. The Bruins were unable to capitalize on 11 more shots in the second period as his stellar goaltending performance continued.
The Bruins would score once in the third period, on a goal from David Pastrnak who not only extended his point-streak to 16 games, but notched his 800th career-point. The streak ties the longest NHL point streak by a Czechia-born player in history, with Robert Lang and Jaromir Jagr having their own 16-game streaks. Pastrnak is only the eighth player in Bruins history to reach 800 points.
