Multiple reports Wednesday revealed the Patriots gave Davon Godchaux permission to seek a trade this NFL offseason.

Well, the veteran defensive tackle might not be the only player dealt by New England in the coming months.

Joe Milton III immediately was viewed as a potential trade chip following his impressive Week 18 performance against the Buffalo Bills. Milton probably never will see playing time in Foxboro, Mass., as long as Drake Maye is around and healthy, so the logic was the Patriots potentially could sell high on a quarterback who has a rare skill set but historically has been wildly inconsistent.

New England doesn’t appear to be actively shopping Milton at this juncture, but according to Boston Sports Journal’s Greg Bedard, a potential trade involving the Tennessee product is something the Patriots might be keeping on their radar.

“What I reported at the Senior Bowl, and it’s not exactly like a breaking news sounder or something like that, but the chatter from the All-Star circuit, whether it’s the East-West and also the Senior Bowl, was that the Patriots are toying with the idea of making Joe Milton available,” Bedard said Tuesday on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Felger & Mazz,” as transcribed by Bleacher Report. “I’m sure they’re taking calls if people do call. I think it would be wise.”

Several NFL analysts have recommended the Patriots trade Milton, a sixth-round pick in last year’s draft. In fact, Brian Baldinger went as far as to call the 24-year-old “the very best option” for teams looking for quarterback help this offseason.

New England probably shouldn’t be looking far and wide for a Milton trade, as he presents solid value as both a backup quarterback and trade asset. But if a desperate team overwhelms the Patriots with an offer, Eliot Wolf and company shouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger.
