The Patriots are at an interesting spot with the fourth overall pick in this year’s draft, especially given the quality of prospects in the class.
This year’s draft appears to be the wrong time to want a quarterback. Abdul Carter and Travis Hunter lead the class as the best prospects, and New England will have to wait and see who gets selected in the top three to decide whom they want.
It would be wise of New England to trade back and acquire more assets. However, a new report offered insight on the Patriots’ view of their pick heading into the NFL Scouting Combine.
“The Patriots are willing to hear other teams’ offers for the No. 4 pick, but — much like last year — they’re not particularly motivated to move back. In other words, it would take a big offer for them to trade the pick,” The Athletic’s Chad Graff reported Thursday.
“The most likely scenario that could lead to a substantial offer is one of the top quarterbacks, Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders, falling out of the top three and a team being impressed enough by them to move up.”

Ward and Sanders are projected to be the top two quarterbacks in the 2025 class, but neither is viewed as a can’t-miss prospect. However, there could be a QB-needy team desperate enough to move up to No. 4.
It was smart of the Patriots last year not to trade their pick and draft Drake Maye. This year, however, it seems like they are more willing to feel out how the top of the draft plays out.
