The Boston Bruins made another move before the NHL trade deadline on Friday.
Bruins general manager Don Sweeney announced Thursday that the team acquired forwards Jakub Lauko and Marat Khusnutdinov and a 2026 sixth-round pick that originally was theirs from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for forward Justin Brazeau.
Lauko, 24, was originally selected by Boston in the third round of the 2018 NHL Draft, eventually skating in 83 games with the club before being shipped off to Minnesota prior to last season’s deadline. Lauko was a fan-favorite, if not only for his propensity to share memes on social media regarding his unique nickname.
Khusnutdinov, 22, was originally selected by Minnesota in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft, and has appeared in 73 total games — collecting 11 points for the club.
Brazeau, 27, is undoubtedly the centerpiece of the trade, having become a breakout performer on the bottom-six by recording 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points. The Bruins essentially picked him up out of obscurity last season, before seeing him become a regular in the lineup before this trade.
