Tony Massarotti went viral this week when he criticized a top Red Sox prospect, who had a chance to respond Saturday.
Massarotti admitted he had not seen much of Roman Anthony. However, that didn’t stop the “Felger & Mazz” host from questioning if Boston’s No. 1 prospect was overrated and that concerns over his defense made him a designated hitter at best.
For those who have followed Anthony, the critiques about his defense were silly, and Massarotti was called out for making a bad-faith argument just for the sake of it. Anthony didn’t go that far in his response.
“I think they (the Red Sox) do a pretty good job here of kinda letting us know pretty early and taking us through everything and teaching us about what goes on in Boston. But I think that’s what makes it such a fun place to play — is that people care so much and that people are constantly talking,” Anthony said, per MassLive’s Christopher Smith. “I know at least for myself, I love proving people wrong. I love feeding off of that. And I love the fact that Boston fans are always, even regardless of where your team is at or the record, they’re always passionate.
“They’re always there and they hold us to a standard. And I love that. I think playing in Boston, you’re playing meaningful baseball 24/7. So just taking on challenges like that is something I’m super excited to be a part of and to learn about when I’m actually there. Obviously, I haven’t been there yet, so I can’t speak on it. But it’s something that I’m excited to take on.”

That wasn’t an unsurprising response from Anthony. The 20-year-old has been laser-focused on trying to make the Opening Day roster and making an impact in Boston along with fellow top prospects Kristian Campebll and Marcelo Mayer.
It did add an interesting wrinkle and fans surely will Massarotti know about Anthony’s defense whenever he makes a highlight web gem.
