The Patriots parted ways with an all-time franchise great Thursday.

New England released center David Andrews on the second day of the new NFL year. It marked the end of a terrific run in Foxboro, Mass., where the Georgia native won a pair of Super Bowls and was named a team captain eight times.

Shortly after Robert Kraft and the Patriots announced the move, Andrews took to his Instagram story to show his appreciation for the organization.

“Thank you @patriots,” Andrews wrote. “I always will cherish the memories and relationships on and off the field and what we accomplished. The best 10 years me and @mackandrews could ever ask for. I’ll always be a Patriot.”

It remains to be seen if Andrews, who turns 33 in early July, will continue his NFL career outside New England. However, Kraft’s statement about the longtime leader suggested retirement was very much on the table.

As Andrews noted, he will always be a Patriot. But that notion will be further legitimized when New England inevitably inducts him into the franchise’s Hall of Fame.
