Garrett Crochet Explains Rapport With Red Sox Pitching Coach

Multiple Boston pitchers praised the work Andrew Bailey had on their game

Garrett Crochet’s goal is to be one of the best pitchers in baseball, so pairing him up with Red Sox pitching coach Andrew Bailey seemed like the perfect combination.

Crochet turned in an All-Star season with the Chicago White Sox last year. Boston traded for the southpaw and extended Crochet to cement him as the team’s ace for years to come.

Multiple pitchers credited Bailey for the work he’s done to help elevate their games. Tanner Houck was the face of that when he joined Crochet on the American League All-Star team last year. Crochet explained to NESN’s Tom Caron on the “310 To Left” podcast what his relationship with Bailey has been like since joining the Red Sox.

“I feel like we have a very similar outlook on what pitching is in terms of optimal shapes for my arsenal and exactly what I’m trying to chase from start to start, depending on what lineup the other team is fielding. Also, a previous co-worker of his, Ethan Katz, my pitching coach last year, they had a great relationship. So I feel like we were able to hit it off immediately. We automatically were able to strike that common ground. It was pretty easy.”

Crochet starts again for Boston when it plays the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park on Tuesday. You can catch full coverage on NESN starting at 5:30 p.m. ET.
